Flexitech Aerospace CTO Speaks at 2017 ISS R&D Conference

Following the successful installation and operation of the Maritime Awareness payload, also know at GLASS, on the International Space Stations (ISS), Kevin Jackson, Flexitech Aerospace CTO, was invited to present results from the experiment with this payload. GLASS enabled reception of AIS signals and observation of VHF spectrum from orbit. The presentation titled, International Space Station as a Commercial Sensor Platform for RF Spectrum Capture, looked at how, using software defined radio technology, it is possible to provide greater insight to radio (RF) spectrum use. Through this presentation Kevin showed the exciting results from obtained from the payload on the ISS and how that set of data has helped improve AIS reception in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Flexitech Aerospace designed and manufactured the RF system components within the Maritime Awareness payload and played a key role in integrating, testing and operating the payload on the ISS.
